Drogheda United 'knew or ought to have known' about UEFA's change of assessment date, despite the club's protestations of a failure in communication by the governing body.
Sickening stuff, so the end game is essentially trivela just didn’t make the changes in time ? Big question is what about next year if we are in the same spot again? How can you expect players to give their all to qualify for Europe if there’s a chance it’ll be ripped from us again.
Your heart would break for the players and staff. Let down big time by Trivela.
Reading through their statement again this morning, there seems to be a lot of emotive language but little substance. I'd say it's a poorly written piece of PR, but it seems a lot of people have bought it, going by comments online.
They've failed the stadium application, they've failed with the initial UEFA application, and they've failed with the appeal, all while saying outwardly they were confident of success in all three. If I was putting my money into Arlington Family Offices I'd be looking for a serious review of what's going on.
If they give you an interview Barry can you please aks them about how much they've spent here and who is financing that? If it's the club, via a loan that must be repaid to Trivela, they really need to be giving the boot.
Also, to add - I'd love to know more about this communication process and how they claim they only found out about the date change a few days before the deadline. Do UEFA communicate directly to clubs about these? It beggars belief that they would communicate a change at such short notice and Drogheda to be the only club behind the curve. Do UEFA communicate with national FAs and they're responsible for updating clubs??
As you'll have read today Daire, UEFA issue guidance to national associations who are, in theory, supposed to inform relevant clubs. They didn't on this occasion as the guidance was updated on October 7 while Trivela did not announce their intention to buy Silkeborg until November.
Thanks for the updates Barry over last few days, any chance you can get further comments from trivela on what has happened and their plans moving forward especially with July and only one league match scheduled. Will there be potential friendlies to raise money for the club
Has trivela made any comment regarding the prize money that drogheda would have got from eufa for Europe or over legal fees over the last few months for the court of appeals. It would be terrible to see drogheda a million in debt due to trivelas mistakes
Bottom line they failed to do their due diligence before they acquired the shareholding in Silkborg, and the repercussions this would have. The blame lies with the owners.
