The first time I caught a glimpse of Drogheda United’s new goalkeeper, he didn’t immediately strike you as particularly imposing. Stationed on the sideline during the club’s pre-season friendly against Longford Town, he was stood next to all 6ft 4” of Lincoln City loanee Oisin Gallagher so it was perhaps understandable.

Sitting upstairs in a Portadown coffee shop, overlooking the High Street, the six-foot tall, broad-shouldered Jethren Barr is engaging and expansive company. He speaks candidly, which is appreciated.
