When Drogs opened the season by thrashing Stephen Kenny's title winners-in-waiting
Robbie Horgan, Gavin Brennan, Declan O'Brien, Dane Massey and Daire Doyle reminisce about the opening night of the 2014 League of Ireland season; a famous one in the modern history of Drogheda United.
Robbie Horgan can’t quite believe it. Stood on the United Park touchline, he watches on as his team are sweeping Dundalk away. Even then, Stephen Kenny is a six-time winner of major trophies in the League of Ireland. He’d finished as runner-up in various competitions almost as often. He had managed in Scotland too.
By comparison, this was Horgan’s first league game in management. He was Drogheda United through-and-through and had seen plenty, if not it all, in his near 30 years in the game. But this was a new experience for him. He was a novice in management terms. This was a thrill.
Time flies whether you’re having fun or not. “It doesn’t seem like 10 years ago. It seems like yesterday,” he tells Love Is The Drog. He can’t quite believe that either.
